             1997 INSURANCE ANNUAL REPORT PUBLISHED


The Insurance Annual Report 1997 has been published by the
Treasury today. The report covers the regulatory and
supervisory activities of the Treasury's Insurance Directorate
during 1997.





NOTES TO EDITORS

1. The report is made under section 98 of the Insurance
Companies Act 1982. Lists of insurance companies which are
authorised to carry on insurance business in the UK are
included in the report.

2. The report costs 15.50 Pounds and is available from Stationery
