INITIAL SCOPE OF NATIONAL STATISTICS
June 2000
The White Paper ‘Building trust in statistics’ stated that “all current
Office for National Statistics publications and public access databases
should be within the scope of National Statistics, and that with the
agreement of Ministers other statistics currently published by departments
should also be included as appropriate”. This note sets out the range
of official statistics that Ministers have now determined should be
within the initial scope of National Statistics.
This provides the starting point for National Statistics. Future additions
will be considered under the procedures set out in the Framework for
National Statistics. To help users of National Statistics more generally
all of the key national statistics will be available electronically
through the new National Statistics
website.
